What Is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription weight loss medication that has rapidly become one of the most effective treatments available for obesity and weight management. It works by mimicking two gut hormones, GLP 1 and GIP, which regulate appetite, blood sugar, and metabolism. How Does Mounjaro Work?
Tirzepatide acts on receptors in the brain that control appetite and satiety. After injection, most patients notice a marked reduction in hunger within the first few days. Food cravings diminish, portion sizes naturally decrease, and the constant background thinking about food that many patients describe begins to fade.
The medication is administered as a once weekly subcutaneous injection using a pre filled pen. The starting dose is 2.5mg for the first four weeks, increasing to 5mg, then 7.5mg, and potentially higher doses depending on your response and tolerance. Each dose increase is made gradually to minimise side effects.
What Results Can I Expect?
Clinical trials have shown average weight loss of 15 to 22% of body weight over 72 weeks. In clinical practice, patients typically begin to see meaningful results within the first month on the 5mg dose. The rate of weight loss varies, but a loss of one to two kilograms per week during the active treatment phase is common.

Side Effects and Safety

More significant side effects are uncommon but can include vomiting, abdominal pain, and, rarely, pancreatitis. Patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 should not use tirzepatide.
