We recently reviewed the cardiac investigation results for a patient with known atrial fibrillation who had been found to have an ejection systolic murmur during a routine check up. The echocardiogram showed reassuring findings overall — sinus rhythm at 85 beats per minute, an ejection fraction of 55 to 60 per cent, and normal ventricular size. However, the echo identified a dilated aortic root — a finding that requires ongoing monitoring.
