When your child is unwell, waiting days for a GP appointment is not an option. At Clinique Alpa in Palmers Green, we see children of all ages — from babies to teenagers — on the same day you call. Dr Mitesh Parmar has over 20 years of experience in general practice and sees paediatric patients regularly, providing thorough assessments that give parents genuine reassurance.
Why Parents Choose a Private Children’s Doctor
Children’s illnesses often present differently from adults. A rash that looks harmless might need investigation. A cough that has lingered for weeks might warrant more than a telephone consultation. A child’s behaviour change might signal something that needs clinical attention. These concerns deserve face-to-face assessment by a doctor with time to examine your child properly, explain the findings clearly, and involve you in the decision-making.
At Clinique Alpa, paediatric consultations are unhurried. Parents have time to describe what they are observing at home, ask questions, and leave with a clear plan — whether that means treatment, watchful waiting, or referral to a paediatric specialist.
From Our Clinic: Recognising What Needs Escalation
A parent recently brought their child in for a medication review — the child was taking Medikinet for ADHD and had recently returned from a family holiday abroad. On the first day back on medication, the child had felt emotional and tearful in the evening. The parent was understandably worried.
During our consultation, we established that this was most likely a combination of jet lag, the transition back to school routine, and the re-introduction of medication after a break — not a new side effect. Importantly, we also carried out a full safety assessment: the child denied any suicidal thoughts or self-harm, had no cardiac symptoms, and vital signs including heart rate and blood pressure were normal.
We also took the opportunity to review the family cardiac history — relevant because stimulant medications require ongoing cardiovascular monitoring — and arranged a follow-up video consultation with the prescribing specialist. The parent left reassured, with a clear plan and direct access to the specialist for any further concerns.
This kind of thorough, joined-up paediatric care is difficult to achieve in a standard NHS appointment. At Clinique Alpa, there is time to do it properly.
Common Paediatric Presentations We See
We regularly see children presenting with ear infections and glue ear, recurrent tonsillitis and sore throats, persistent coughs and wheeze, skin conditions including eczema, impetigo, and unusual rashes, urinary tract infections, abdominal pain, food intolerances and dietary concerns, behavioural and developmental concerns, vaccination catch-ups, and travel health advice for families going abroad.
When to Seek Urgent Paediatric Care
While Clinique Alpa can manage the vast majority of childhood illnesses, some situations require emergency care. If your child has a non-blanching rash, is struggling to breathe, is floppy or unusually drowsy, has a fever above 39°C that is not responding to paracetamol, or has signs of dehydration, take them directly to your nearest paediatric A&E or call 999.
