When Should You Get a Mole Checked?
You should seek a medical opinion if a mole has changed in size, shape, or colour; if it has become itchy, painful, or started bleeding; if it has an irregular border or uneven pigmentation; if a new mole has appeared after the age of 30; or if you have a family history of melanoma. The ABCDE rule is a useful guide: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour variation, Diameter greater than 6mm, and Evolving over time.
Mole Assessment at Clinique Alpa

Mole Removal Procedure

The technique depends on the lesion — excision biopsy for suspicious moles (ensuring the entire lesion is removed with a margin for analysis), shave excision for raised benign lesions, or punch biopsy where a tissue sample is needed.
The procedure typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, and you can return to normal activities immediately. Stitches, if required, are usually removed after 7 to 14 days.
