IV aftercare
After your IV treatment
Follow the individual advice given by your treating doctor. Keep the written information about your treatment and any planned follow up. This page explains how to seek help if you develop symptoms after leaving the clinic.
Call 999 for an emergency
Call 999 for difficulty breathing, swelling of your tongue or throat, collapse, severe chest pain, or another severe or rapidly worsening reaction. Do not wait for the clinic to answer, or for an email or booking message to be read.
Symptoms to report promptly
Seek prompt clinical advice if you develop new or worsening symptoms such as a rash, fever, persistent dizziness, or pain, swelling or discolouration around the cannula site. Tell the clinician what treatment you received and when.
Iron leaking outside a vein can cause skin staining that is long lasting or permanent. Report pain, burning, swelling, leakage or new discolouration promptly. If symptoms are severe, use urgent or emergency services as appropriate.
Contact the clinic
Call 020 8882 8088 during clinic hours:
- Monday to Friday09:00 to 20:00
- Sunday09:30 to 17:30
- Saturdayclosed
Outside clinic hours, except on Saturdays, the clinic telephone is diverted to Dr Alpa Morawala or Dr Mitesh Parmar. A telephone diversion does not guarantee an immediate answer or a 24-hour clinical response. If you need urgent advice and cannot reach a clinician, use NHS 111. Call 999 if symptoms are severe or rapidly worsening.
On Saturdays, use NHS 111 for urgent advice that is not an emergency, or 999 for a medical emergency. Do not wait until the clinic reopens if you need help sooner.

If your doctor has arranged tests or a review, follow that plan. You can tell the clinic about suspected side effects even if you are unsure whether the infusion caused them. Reporting a suspected side effect does not replace medical assessment.
