Intravenous medicines and fluids policy
Clinique Alpa's IV medicines and fluids policy is CA-CLIN-SOP-IV-001 version 2.5 FINAL. Supporting SOPs IV-002, IV-003 and IV-004 are version 1.4 FINAL. This issue is dated 23 October 2026 and adds the home IV saline pathway, preserving the approval history of 22 October 2026. Review is due 22 October 2027 or earlier after a relevant change.
Our IV service has operated since May 2024. The policy covers assessment, consent, medicines review, preparation, administration, monitoring, adverse events and follow-up for adults receiving planned IV treatment at the Palmers Green clinic. Multi-ingredient formulas and advance preparation remain outside this pathway. IV sodium chloride 0.9% may also be given at home by Dr Parmar or Dr Alpa Morawala, from a ready-to-administer bag with nothing added. IV iron and IV vitamin C are given at the clinic only.

Clinical responsibilities and products
Dr Mitesh Parmar and Dr Alpa Morawala prepare and administer treatment in rooms 1 and 3. Both doctors approve each product and preparation process. Either doctor may assess a patient and authorise that patient's prescription. Training/competency records, room assessments and product approvals are complete and signed, with the records held privately. Training and room assessments were completed on 22 October 2026. The rules for home IV saline, including the home setting check, emergency kit, supervision and batch recording, are in IV-002 section 16.
The confirmed iron medicine is Venofer (iron sucrose), 20 mg iron/mL, UK marketing authorisation PL 15240/0001, held by Vifor France. The confirmed vitamin C medicine is Ascorbic Acid Pascoe 150 mg/ml, PL 14369/0009, held by Pascoe pharmazeutische Präparate GmbH. Ecoflac saline is supplied by AAH Pharmaceuticals. Actual stock labels, presentations and supplier records are retained with the approved product information. Treatment follows the current SmPC, approved protocol and individual prescription.
Alerts and traceability
Direct MHRA/GOV.UK alerts to our enquiries inbox are active and distributed to all three clinicians. CAS alerts are also received through Dr Parmar's NHSmail account and forwarded to the same inbox. Dr Parmar, Dr Alpa and Dr Amit check alerts daily and cross-cover. The weekly rota commencing 26 October 2026 identifies a lead and deputy for triage, action and recording. Urgent alerts are acted on immediately on receipt according to their instructions.
Each fluid container and additive's batch number and expiry is recorded against the patient's infusion. This enables identification of affected patients and stock when a recall or safety alert is received. Recall actions and follow-up are recorded and reviewed.

Aftercare
Read our IV aftercare information for symptoms to report, contact arrangements and urgent help. The same advice applies after a home infusion.
Before each treatment
A change in your medicines or a new test result can change the decision to give an infusion. The checks must be revisited before treatment, even if you have received an infusion before.
Urgent help
Call 999 for a medical emergency. For urgent advice that cannot wait, when it is not an emergency and you cannot reach a clinician, use NHS 111. Do not wait for a booking message to be answered if you are seriously unwell.
For questions about the policy or an accessible format, please contact the clinic. Read about IV treatment assessment at Clinique Alpa and clinical governance at Clinique Alpa.
