Palliative support

Live in support at home towards the end of life

When someone wishes to remain at home, a live in carer can provide presence, personal care and calm, and look after the household so that family can be family. Clinical palliative care stays with the NHS team, and we work beside them.

What Clinique Alpa can and cannot do

Clinique Alpa can support someone approaching the end of life if they wish to be at home and the work sits within personal care. That means washing, mouth care as agreed, help changing position, meals if they want them, sitting with them, and keeping the house running so that relatives can spend their time as family rather than as staff.

We are not a nursing service or a hospice. Pain relief, syringe drivers and specialist palliative nursing belong to district nurses, the GP and hospice at home teams. We work alongside them, follow the plan they set, and do not take on tasks we are not registered to do. If needs move beyond our scope, we tell you quickly and help with the next step.

What matters at home

A favourite radio station. The quilt from the other bed. Who is allowed in the room. Whether the window is open. A carer who can sit without filling the silence. Dignity at the end of life is mostly made of small things, and a live in carer has the time to attend to them.

If you are thinking about this now

Speak to our care team

Call or request a callback. A manager will ask about the person, the home and what has become difficult, and tell you whether live in care is likely to suit. There is no obligation.

Doctor led assessment at home

A doctor from our team visits to assess health, medicines, mobility, memory, nights and daily routine. The assessment becomes the care plan. It also tells us what kind of carer this household needs.

Your carer is matched and care begins

We choose a carer for this household, not the next name on a list. You are introduced before the start date, and the care plan is reviewed once the carer has settled in.

Questions families ask about live in care

Do you provide palliative nursing?

No. We provide personal care and live in support. Nursing stays with the clinical team. If needs move beyond our scope, we tell you quickly.

How quickly can palliative live in support start?

We treat these requests as urgent and will tell you in the first call what is realistic. A doctor from our team still assesses, which also helps us work sensibly with the palliative care team's plan.

Is this a nursing service?

No. Clinique Alpa is registered with the CQC for personal care. Nursing tasks sit outside our scope. Where a district nurse, GP or specialist team is involved, we work alongside them.
