Dementia care
Live in dementia care: staying at home with a consistent carer
Most people with dementia do better in surroundings they know, with faces they recognise. A live in carer makes that possible for longer, supporting the routine of the day and keeping the person safe without turning the house into a ward.
- Doctor led live in care
- Initial assessment carried out by a doctor
- CQC registered for personal care
- Family run, with our own private GP clinic in Palmers Green
Can someone with dementia stay at home?
For many people, yes, and often for a long time. Change is harder when the rooms change too. A move can bring on confusion and distress that familiar surroundings would have prevented. A live in carer holds the routine in place: the same kitchen, the same chair, the same time for the radio, and one person who learns how the individual communicates rather than a changing rota.
Clinique Alpa supports people living with dementia. We do not treat the condition. Diagnosis, medicines for dementia and memory clinics stay with the GP, the memory service and, where a family chooses, the Clinique Alpa private GP clinic. Our work is the day itself.

What a live in carer does for someone with dementia
The skill is patience and consistency: prompting without taking over, reassuring without arguing, and keeping the person safe without restricting them more than necessary.
- Personal care at the person's pace, with the same approach each day
- Meals that look like meals, and gentle attention to eating and drinking
- Orientation through ordinary conversation, clocks, daylight and routine
- Prompting, assisting and giving medicines as set out in the care plan
- Support if walking about at night becomes part of the illness
- Time with photographs, music, the garden, faith and old friends
- Noticing changes in health or behaviour and reporting them to family and the office
- Calm, regular updates to family, without daily drama
Why the doctor led assessment matters with dementia
Dementia rarely arrives alone. The person may also have heart disease, diabetes, a falls history or a long list of medicines, and a new confusion can be an infection rather than the dementia. Because a doctor carries out the initial assessment, the care plan starts from the whole picture, and carers are told what to watch for and when to escalate.
When live in care may not be enough
If a person needs frequent waking intervention through the night, secure premises that a domestic home cannot provide, or nursing care outside personal care, we will say so and help you think about the alternatives. Needs change, and we review the care plan as they do.
How dementia live in care is arranged
Speak to our care team
Call or request a callback. A manager will ask about the person, the home and what has become difficult, and tell you whether live in care is likely to suit. There is no obligation.
Doctor led assessment at home
A doctor from our team visits to assess health, medicines, mobility, memory, nights and daily routine. The assessment becomes the care plan. It also tells us what kind of carer this household needs.
Your carer is matched and care begins
We choose a carer for this household, not the next name on a list. You are introduced before the start date, and the care plan is reviewed once the carer has settled in.
Questions families ask about live in care
Can a live in carer support someone with dementia?
Yes, for many people, especially while home still makes sense to them. The carer supports daily life and safety and works to a care plan drawn up after a doctor's assessment. Progression is individual, and we review the plan as needs change.
Do your carers have dementia experience?
We match carers with relevant experience to people living with dementia, and carers receive dementia training as part of their induction and ongoing supervision.
Does a live in carer work through the night?
No. A live in carer is in the home overnight and can help if someone wakes, but they need proper sleep and are not awake on duty for 24 hours. If a person needs frequent help through the night, we will say so at assessment and discuss waking night cover or a second carer.
What happens if the carer is unwell or on leave?
Live in carers work in planned blocks with time away, and a second carer covers those periods. Wherever possible the same two carers alternate so that both know the person and the routine. If a carer is ill, the office arranges cover; you are not left to manage it yourself.
Do you have Turkish-speaking carers?
Yes. Turkish-language support is part of the service. If another language matters to the person, ask us and we will tell you what we can offer.
