From Our Practice: When Pain Makes Travelling Impossible
We recently received a call regarding a patient experiencing severe endometriosis pain. Her MRI had confirmed endometriosis on the uterus and a cyst on the left ovary, and her specialist appointment was not for another three weeks. The night before, she had been awake all night with the worst pain she had ever experienced, severe enough that her ribs were hurting from the muscle tension.
She had over the counter painkillers at home but they were not controlling the pain, and an anti-inflammatory had been tried previously without success. A consultation allowed Dr Parmar to assess her symptoms, start an alternative anti inflammatory, and provide clear safety netting advice about when to attend hospital for intravenous pain relief.
The ability to reach a doctor quickly, have a clinical assessment, and receive treatment without leaving home, while in severe pain, is the difference between suffering in silence and getting help today.
